Pride On Riverwalk
Saturday, June 17th, 2017, 8am until 4pm

Scenes from our Pride park events in previous years

Throughout the day of our parade, we will be hosting our main Pride festival event at Riverwalk Commons in downtown Newmarket - just a few metres away from the end point of the Pride Parade. It will feature entertainment, fun activities, our community fair and much more.

As with all our events, we extend an invitation to all families and friends, not only within the LGBT+ community but also the community at large.

We will be adjacent to the Newmarket Farmers' Market, which will be open for extended hours - from 8am until 2pm, instead of the usual 1pm close. And, just across the road on the south side of Water St, Fairy Lake Park will be home to the 20th Annual Artisan's Festival.

With so much to enjoy, all within easy walking distance, this will be an action-packed day in downtown Newmarket that you won't want to miss!

Community Fair

Our community fair will feature selected vendors as well as a wide selection of local community organizations. They will offer information on LGBT plus other equity related services, as well as insight into local arts and culture.

Entertainment Stage

Our live stage will commence at 11am and feature perfomances by a varied selection of local entertainers.

Stay tuned for details of our stage line-up to be announced soon.

The HollisWealth Story Pod

Check out Newmarket's "giant little library" alongside our community fair. Take a book to read at your leisure or while you relax for some time by the river. We're plannng to have some Pride themed books on offer during our event. Once you're finished enjoying please bring the book back or bring another book that you'd love to share with your community.

In the Story Pod area, leading local children's authors Judy Weagle and Josephine Vaccaro-Chang will be reading from their books and offering signed copies during our event.

  • Lisa and her Pyjamas
Author, Judy Weagle, will be reading from her book at:
    9.30 and 11.30
  • We are Colourful Friends
Author, Josephine Vaccaro-Chang, will be reading from her book at:
    10.30 and 12.30
Lisa is made fun of by her schoolmates because she chooses to wear her pink pyjamas to school for a "Fun Dress Day". The book is about her reasoning and her courage to stand for what she believes in. It motivates children positively in decision making as long as it does not hurt anyone.
We Are Colourful Friends is a simple story that explores cultural diversity. Although the animals are different colours and like different activities they realize they can still be friends. Vibrant images, common kindergarten sight words and repetitive sentence structures help children to read this book independently in no time.
Food and Drink

For a quick snack, there's no shortage of options at the Farmers' Market. But, please note that most market vendors only accept payment in cash.

Around Riverwalk Commons, both the Ground Burger Bar and Cachet offer full menus, licensed bars and patios. Check out our parade page for more details about these restaurants and others that are nearby on Main Street.

Free parking will be available between 9.30am and 5pm on Charles St, just a ten minute walk from Riverwalk Commons along the scenic Tom Taylor Trail beside the Holland River. But we recommend ariving early to ensure available space.
